Lift Weights, Play Sports

Resistance training (weight lifting) is by far the best mode of exercise for a weight loss program. After you establish your RT program, additional activity should come in the form of anything. That’s right, anything. Just get moving. If you hate running, don’t run. Do something else. Take your dog for a walk. Play Wii Fit. Go for a bike ride or a hike.

We play dodgeball (www.azdodgeball.com) for extra activity because it’s demanding and it’s fun. Maybe you could join a recreational sports league that matches your ability. Examples: softball, kickball, basketball, volleyball, flag football, tennis, etc.

The point is that if you don’t enjoy the majority of your exercise program, you won’t stick to it. So, make choices you will enjoy. You’ll lose weight (mostly fat), improve your health, and have something fun to look forward to!

The S.P.E.E.D. Plan for Weight Loss

Two of the owners of L.E.A.N. Wellness Center (Mesa, AZ) are currently scouring the medical literature regarding all the aspects of weight loss.  The end product will be a user’s manual to fast weight loss call The S.P.E.E.D. Plan.

Jeff Thiboutot, MS, CN, LMT, CPT and Matt Schoeneberger MS, NASM CPT/CES are combining their knowledge and experience in the health and fitness field to create a to-the-point approach to weight loss.  The S.P.E.E.D. Plan will differ from most other plans in that every claim in the book will be supported by scientific research and won’t be simply the latest fitness trends or a new twist on the same old ideas.  It will discuss lifestyle factors not commonly associated with weight loss.  In fact, diet and exercise make-up only a small portion of this book.

S.P.E.E.D. will be very concise, in order to allow the reader to apply the information as quickly as possible.  This book explains the how, and not so much of the why.  Leave the ‘why’ up to Jeff and Matt and their countless hours of research.

This blog will be Jeff and Matt’s journal through the writing process, as well as after the book is published.  It will include some insight into the research process that won’t be included in the book.
